SAIL (Stay Active for Independent Living).

SAIL is an evidence-based program to help prevent falls in adults 65 and above by focusing on research-tested strength, balance and flexibility exercises.  A sturdy chair and hand weights are needed. SAIL classes are usually 45 minutes and combine standing and seated exercises.

 

TRX Suspension Training

Created by a Navy SEAL, TRX Suspension Training uses bodyweight exercises to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously.  This training requires the use of a TRX or other suspension trainer, a highly portable performance training tool that leverages gravity and the user's body weight to complete 100s of exercises.  TRX classes are usually 45 minutes.  Many exercises are done prone or supine on the floor.

 

Balls and Bands

Balls and Bands uses body weight movement and exercises with 8" plastic balls and resistance bands to build muscle strength, improve balance and increase flexibility and joint range of motion.  Most classes are 45 minutes in length.  Many exercises are done standing.  A sturdy chair is needed.  The exercise balls and resistance bands can be purchased from Longevity Home Fitness for a nominal fee.  

Functional Fitness

Functional fitness is more than being strong or flexible or having good balance.  Functional fitness means having the ability to do the things you want or need to do or perhaps dream of doing  Functional fitness goals might be as simple as getting out of a chair with greater ease, safely climbing up and down stairs or being able to carry a heavy bag of groceries  Or you might want to ride a bike again take up golf or learn to cross country ski These actives involve many aspects of physical function including muscle coordination and control, reaction time, memory, power and endurance.  Functional fitness classes are usually 45 minutes and involve standing exercise and movement.  Each class is designed to address the functional limitations and functional fitness goals of the participants. 

 

Ageless Grace

Ageless Grace is a cutting-age brain fitness program based on neruoplasticity that activates all 5 functions of the brain - analytical, strategic, kinesthetic learning, memory/recall, creativity and imagination -and simultaneously addresses all 21 physical skills needed for lifelong optimal function.  Created by Denise Medved, the program consists of 21 simple exercise tools designed for all ages and abilities.  These exercises, based on everyday movements that are natural and organic, focus on the the healthy longevity of the body and mind.  Most classes are 45 minutes.  Exercises are done to music and seated in a sturdy chair.
